Some Common Questions about Global Warming

By: J.Morgan

Most of us have at least heard about global warming but there are numerous questions you may have. You are not alone. While most have heard of it, many of us still do not understand what it is and what it really means.

Here are some common questions about global warming to help you better understand the subject:

What is the Greenhouse Effect and What Causes it?

When you hear talk about global warming, you are going to hear the terms Greenhouse effect yet many people simply do not understand what it is or what that means. The greenhouse effect is real and it is absolutely essential for life on earth. It is one of Earths natural occurrences that makes it possible for us to survive and our balance to be maintained. This refers to the way gases from our earth are trapped in the lower atmosphere and help warm our earth. These gasses incorporate water vapor, carbon dioxide and other trace gases. While these occur naturally, there are things which we do on earth that increase these gases and this could mean too much global warming.

What Does the Greenhouse Effect Mean to Our Climate?

The greenhouse effect is important to our climate. Without it, our average temperature on earth could drop as much as 60 degrees F and we would not be able to survive. Plant and animal life would be severely affected. However, an increase in greenhouse gases can cause too much warming and this can have serious consequences to our environment.

Are Greenhouse Gases Increasing?

Many people wonder if our greenhouse gases are actually increasing. Studies have down there is a significant increase in the amount of greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere.

How Do We Contribute to Greenhouse Gases?

What do we as humans do to increase greenhouse gases? Our human activity has been adding to greenhouse gases for some time now. The main ways we do this are with carbon dioxide from the combustion of oil, coal and gas. However, there are other products and materials we use which can contribute to greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. When you learn more about what these are, you can take proper steps to prevent yourself from being a contributor.

Is the Climate Warming?

Yes, our climate is warming. Studies have shown an increase in 1 degree F over the past 100 years and this is predicted to continue to rise. Even such a small change in climate temperature can have a large and lasting effect on our planet.

Is the Sea Level Rising?

Yes, studies have shown that global warming is contributing to a rise in sea levels which can also have serious consequences for our future. The rise in sea levels can also be contributed to glaciers melting due to global warming.

What Does it Mean for Our Future?

Global warming is something we should all take very seriously. It can mean a huge change in our future. It can lead to a shift in environmental factors which can affect our climate, plant and animal life on our planet and can even throw off our entire Earths balance.

Now that you know more about global warming, you can see how it impacts our lives or the lives of our children and the future, you can see why it is important to do your part to slow global warming and the effects of over-warming on our planet.
